Initiatives
Panama City Roundtable
Stormwise was invited to a roundtable discussion in Panama City, FL to discuss the efficacy of a plan to transition the short term scope of several national disaster response organizations into a long term, locally sustained rebuilding effort to help survivors of Hurricane Michael.
3/7/20
Hurricane Laura
Stormwise has partnered with local and national rebuilding nonprofits, business men and women and civil servants to facilitate large scale rebuilding projects in Southwest Louisiana. These partnerships have taken many forms and produced housing for survivors in various ways but they can all be categorized by bridging across socio-economic, racial and denominational divides.
8/27/20
Hurricane Delta
Hurricane Delta only compounded the devastating effects of Hurricane Laura in Southwest Louisiana while expanding the footprint of destruction eastward. Stormwise has worked with multiple disaster rebuilding organizations to teach them how to best identify and assist the survivors in the Jennings and Iota communities and pair them with crews of suitable skill and sets and resources.
10/9/20
Lake Charles Distribution
This project united the efforts and resources of 40 local churches from all traditions and backgrounds with 5 different disaster response nonprofits to bring resources including food, beverages, cleaning supplies, baby supplies, hygiene products, clothes, toys, soft goods and furniture to the vulnerable populations of Lake Charles after Hurricanes Laura and Delta.
2/6/21
The Freeze of February 2021
Stormwise worked to locate and source the necessary plumbing repair parts to on-the-ground disaster relief organizations in Texas and Louisiana teaching them about advances in modern plumbing technology. Stormwise also worked with Lake Charles nonprofits and civic leaders in rescuing and sheltering the endangered homeless community.
February 2021
Lake Charles Flood
Stormwise leveraged its relationships with national disaster relief organizations to become a “hub” through which relief work was conducted. By forging collaborative relationships between local nonprofits, Stormwise was able to derive a complete picture of the community’s needs and then coordinate the efforts of relief teams. This greatly reduced redundancy and increased effectiveness.
5/17/21
Hurricane Ida
Immediately after Hurricane Ida was downgraded, Stormwise was down the bayou connecting survivors to local and national resources through our relationships with other leaders. These resources included: food, water, communications, power supplies, and building materials. Stormwise also worked to build capacity in the church community surrounding the affected area to create a buffer zone where survivors could seek refuge and supplies.
8/29/21
Lake Charles Tornado
Stormwise was on the ground within two hours of the tornado touching down connecting the local sheriff’s department to a supply of tarps and roofing materials for survivors to use in drying in their homes. We also engaged the local church network in opening their doors to survivors for temporary shelter.
10/27/21
West Kentucky Tornadoes
Stormwise was asked to teach the Long Term Recovery Groups of six tornado affected counties how to operationalize and rebuild their communities with a mix of professional and volunteer labor. This project involved building capacity in the unaffected communities to support the long-term rebuilding efforts of out- of-state volunteers in the devastated areas. Stormwise also worked to bridge the communication gap between local civic authorities and national nonprofit organizations.
12/10/21
Arabi Tornado
Stormwise was on the ground the day after the Arabi tornado working to clear trees and organize a local supply distribution with the Red Cross an United Way.
3/22/22
Eight Days of Hope XVII
Stormwise was asked to be the interface between the local Long Term Recovery Group and several national rebuilding nonprofits that wished to partner with them. Stormwise trained and deployed a team of local volunteers to gather and manage disaster rebuilding casework to support a massive scope of work which resulted in work being done on 136 homes in eight days.
4/9/22 - 4/16/22
East Kentucky Flooding
Stormwise was sent to the flood-affected communities of East Kentucky by the Community Foundation of West Kentucky to work as an interface between local and nonprofits and civic authorities and national disaster nonprofits. We worked to connect needs to resources and teach basic recovery management methodology at the local level.
7/29/22
Austin Roundtable
Stormwise was invited to a roundtable of national disaster response organizations who had been gathered to discuss the potential of working collaboratively through an online application that was aimed at reducing redundancy and building capacity in the church community local to a disaster. This conversation was a platform for collective impact in future disaster response initiatives.
